Signature Collection 2009
The 2009 debut collection was an introspection on matrimony… with series of interlocking rings passing through tubes, and my searching for a way to connect with nature using the natural element of wood. Wanting a very versatile collection, I forced the use of a very limited color palate, finding most of the color inspiration from the urban landscape of my daily travels.
I found creativity coming from form; with complicated series of tubes inside of tubes, rings inside of tubes, wood inside of fabric, etc. Most of the pieces are morphing pieces, with the ability to convert into 3-7 different forms. This is something I always seem compelled to explore as I develop my designs. I have been very interested in versatile pieces that serve as multifunctional garments for years and years…
I think the economic environment had a lot to do with my decision to fully embrace it as a theme. I have been thinking a lot about what makes clothing valuable to people… and trying to force myself into wearable clothing design. However my desire to explore could not be stifled, and I am quite pleased with the outcome. Such a difference designing in black, white, and tan, as people seem less concerned with the color, and notice that the infrastructure of the designs.
